Jared Weissman

Jared Weissman, superstar boyfriend and apparent master craftsman, is a Harry Potter mega-fan. As it happens, so is his girlfriend, Shelby Stein. So naturally, Weissman took it upon himself this Christmas to hand-build her a perfect replica of Harry Potter's Nimbus 2000.

As one does, of course.

"Shelby has been obsessed with Harry Potter for a long time now and about a year ago decided she wanted to start collecting prop replicas," Weissman told Mashable.

"We went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter this past summer where she bought the Sorcerer’s Stone, Tom Riddle’s diary, and a plaster scroll that says Dumbledoor’s Army with 6 wands mounted on it (Harry, Ron, Hermoine, Luna, Neville, and Ginny) [SIC].

"I knew all she really wanted for Christmas were prop replicas so I figured the ultimate prop replica would be a life size, realistic Nimbus 2000!"

But how did he manage this strikingly convincing replica in a three-week time period?

"I used a 2x4x8 piece of pine for the handle and cut it out with a jigsaw and sanded it to shape with a block plane," he shared with the site. "The bristles were shaped out of basket reed, reinforced underneath with Styrofoam circles to create the shape, and spray-painted a dark brown."

"Then I made the kickstand out of plastic rod that I heated in the oven and with a heat gun and bent to shape and then spray-painted it gold."

Oh, okay, no big deal then.

Stein's reaction to the gift was understandably ecstatic.

"I gave her the gift just after we had finished opening presents with our families," Weissman said. "I wrapped it in brown paper and twine just like it was in the movie when Harry receives [it] in the Great Hall from his owl.

"Unfortunately, she could tell exactly what it was when she saw it (it’s kind of hard to hide the shape of a broom when it’s tightly wrapped). She was extremely excited though, and she even cried!"

We're crying too, Shelby. Us too. Because the closest we're ever going to get to a Nimbus 2000 is the half-dead Swiffer in the pantry.
