Do Mulder and Scully still want to believe?
The X-Files will premiere on January 24th, 2016 with six new episodes, and a new 21-minute preview has been provided for the beloved sci-fi show's revival. The extensive sneak peek gives a behind-the-scenes look and also provides commentary from creator Chris Carter and the show's two leads: David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. The video serves as a refresher for fans of the show, and it also doubles as an introduction for newbies who are interested in watching The X-Files revival. If you didn't grow up watching agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully on the small screen, then this video should be mandatory viewing!
Like the original X-Files, the miniseries will be a combination of mythology episodes, which illustrate Mulder and Scully's quest to find extraterrestrial life, and standalone “Monster of the Week” episodes in which the two FBI special agents solve investigations outside of their typical UFO-related pursuits. However, this time the story lines for both types of episodes will be directly related to one another.
"Even in the standalone episode, there's some story to advance," Duchovny stated in the preview video. "It's not just about the case.”
Mulder and Scully will continue to serve as the heart of The X-Files, and it's good to know that the sexual tension between them is still well and alive. "We've always tried to have a human element. It was always tied to how it affected Mulder and Scully as human beings, and same here," added writer Darin Morgan in the video. "They're going through all these weird stories but the through lines is them confronting their age and confronting their life choices."
William B. Davis will return as the infamous “Cigarette Smoking Man,” and the revival will also feature Joel McHale (Community), Robbie Amell (The Flash), and Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under).
