Hayden Christensen Could Have Appeared in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'
Lucasfilm Ltd.

There were plenty of familiar faces in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but one more member of the previous cast was slated to make a return. Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader could have made a cameo, and there's a rumor floating around that he might pop up in Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII or Gareth Edwards' Rogue One.

Concept art from a new book titled The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens shows what Christensen's iconic character would've looked like in the film.

Artist Iain McCaig explained the motivation behind the concept. "'When you light a candle, you also cast a shadow.' That inspired me to propose, for the first time, that Anakin’s ghost could come back … If we see Anakin Skywalker, because he does flow back and forth between Darth Vader and Anakin, let’s see him as a character with a dark and light side. The reason Luke is this whole new entity is because he was the first to acknowledge his own dark side — that it was not separate from him."

Christensen would have appeared as a Force ghost, but would he have presented himself as Darth Vader to Kylo Ren or as Anakin Skywalker to Rey or Luke?
